Karaoke download stores

Karaoke download stores are useful for finding individual tracks. All these stores use standard formats (zip/mp3g) and are DRM free. They are faster, and much easier to set up than downloading songs the free way.

They’re also reliable enough for use “live” during a karaoke night when you don’t have a song (just hit the singer up for a couple bucks). You could even use online stores to run a karaoke night with no library at all. Reviews after the jump.

Tricerasoft (built into kJams) – kJams has a built-in music store that’s super convenient. Just enter your credit card in the “Store” preference pane and you can buy songs on-the-fly.

Tricerasoft (web store) – You can access the store online as well. Not as handy, but fine on Windows. They even have the kantatu collection of Brazilian music. Over 1300 songs. Tricerasoft also makes their own player, but you’re probably better off using the web store with Winamp or Pykaraoke.

BuyKaraokeDownloads.com – No tracks from Sound Choice, Chartbuster, or Pop Hits Monthly but they produce their own tracks for new songs. My hunch is that they have more songs than Tricerasoft.

The sites will remind you why iTunes destroyed all preceding attempts at web-based mp3 stores. But they work. I’ve used the built in kJams store a few times… the venue where I do karaoke has wifi, but their resident geek refuses to turn on UPnP so I can’t use mIRC to download tracks for free.
